Nicolas Bonbled holds a Master Degree in Law (UCLouvain, 2003), an LL.M. in public international law (EUR, 2004) and a PhD in law (UCLouvain, 2009).
In 2004, he was awarded National Scientific Research Fund Fellowship (FRS – FNRS) in order to research and redact a doctoral thesis in constitutional law on the allocation of competences and minority rights in federal states.
He is an attorney at the Brussels bar since 2009. At the outset, he worked at NautaDutilh, after which he became a partner with Gérard & Associés in 2013. He joined Portico in 2017.
Nicolas is widely experience in different areas of public and administrative law, and especially so in litigation. He intervenes regularly in procedures before the Council of State, the Constitutional Court and regular courts. On a daily basis, he deals with dossiers involving (civil) state liability, civil service law, local government law and public procurement law. In the field of fundamental rights as well as dealing with linguistic legislation (particularly, in administrative matters), he has a recognized expertise.
Alongside the activities he endeavors upon as an attorney, Nicolas holds a professorship at the UCLouvain, where he teaches public law, as well as on rights and liberties. He has also taught these subjects at the ULB as an assistant professor (2014-2016). Regularly, he speaks at colloquia and conferences, and Nicolas also authored numerous scientific articles in constitutional law, administrative law and human rights law.
He is co-director of the journal Annales de droit de Louvain since 2013
